NIGHT CRUISE

18”x18”, acrylic, paper, graphite, oil pastel on cradled wood panel. This was inspired by childhood memories of long rides home in the backseat of my dad’s car. Droning baseball games lulled me to sleep as we returned from my grandparents’ home on a Sunday night after a day spent with cousins, aunts and uncles around the family dinner table. The lights in the rear view mirror looked like an impressionist blur as my eyes fought to stay open just few minutes longer.

FISHIN WITH JAKE

12”x12”, acrylic, paper, doilies, graphite, oil pastel, wood panel framed in a floating wood frame. This painting was a tribute to my huge dog Jake who had recently died. I wanted to imagine for a moment that Jake was my child and we were making summer time memories fishing together. Sometimes the imagination can help deal with profound grief, even for a moment.

THE AVIARY AFTER FIVE

36”x36”, acrylic, papers, graphite, lotto cards, oil pastels This painting was created through layers of papers and paint, working until the birds started to peek through. Their appearance made me wonder what actually happens after the aviary near my home closes. Dancing, strutting, flying?

4. The Aviary After Five.jpg

14”x14'“, acrylic, papers, oil pastel and graphite on cradled wood panel. This painting evolved as the layers of paper were covered by paint and marks. The glowing areas made me think of a world beyond, possibly full of hieroglyphs and hidden civilizations. The dark black mark reminds me of a hovering bird which turned into a hummingbird. My work is ofter busy with much to take in. This one is different..it feels calm and peaceful, a rest for the viewer’s eye.

5. Hummingbird Hieroglypgh.jpg

18”x18’, acrylic, paper, graphite, oil stick. Sometimes love shows up at the most unexpected moments. These two lock glances and are immediately drawn towards one another. No self consciousness exists, though clearly the girl forgot her shirt and the man is having a very bad hair day. Just more to love, they internally conclude.
